Starting the setup with the command line parameters /SILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /PASSWORD=<installationkey> will perform a silent and automatic installation with the default settings. Please replace <installationkey> with the license key that you received after your registration. Using /VERYSILENT instead of /SILENT will prevent any visual feedback.
Use the options /SERVICEUSER <domain>\<username> and /SERVICEPWD <password> within the initial installation of SpaceObServer to specify the login information of the SpaceObServer scan service. Otherwise the local system account is used here, which can lead to problems when scanning network shares (See: "SpaceObServer doesn't start to scan a selected directory...").
The option /DIR=<directory> can be used to override the default install path.
After this you may configure your database connection using the OLE Automation Interface of SpaceObServer. A template script for an Unattended Installation of SpaceObServer can be found in the installation directory, in the sub directory "Demos" (See "UnattendedInstallation.vbs").

Updates are free within your maintenance period (12 to 60 months after purchase). You are allowed to use the software as long as you want to. If your maintenance period expires, you will get no more free updates, but you will be able to purchase a maintenance renewal for a reduced price in our customer's area.
In the "Help" menu of SpaceObServer you can use "Check for update" to check online if there are updates available. Within your maintenance you can download the latest version directly from the shown dialog. Alternatively you can download the new installer from our customer's area.
To update to the latest version just run the new installation file. Your scan data and all your user settings will persist.
The free trial version allows you to evaluate the software before you buy it. Further usage of the software after that period is not permitted and violates the law. In order to allow our customers to fully test our software products, our trial versions usually do not contain significant limitations. But the software may remind you from time to time that you should purchase the software after your testing is finished.
SpaceObServer offers two editions: DataCentral (former: Standard Edition) and Enterprise.
DataCentral is your solution for simple scanning of multiple storage systems without the need for automation.
With the Enterprise Edition, on the other hand, you can scan multiple servers and benefit from automated reporting, Data Lifecycle Management as well as OLE Automation.
Please find a detailed comparison of both editions here.
For questions regarding prices and purchasing, please refer to our price list and our ordering FAQ.
SpaceObServer is compatible with all Windows versions currently supported by Microsoft, including supported Windows Server versions (latest patches and updates should be installed). Please find more details here. SpaceObServer can be used in a virtual environment.
This problem is unfortunately caused by SharePoint itself.
SharePoint throttles the number of user actions for very large requests. This leads to the fact that the application has to pause the scan after a certain number of calls for a short time (40 to 300 seconds) until new user requests are released.
If SharePoint interrupts the active scan due to too many calls, a message is written in the Windows Event Viewer that refers to the throttling.
To speed up or not unnecessarily slow down a scan, unused statistics (esp. the statistics on file owners and the option to 'Track advanced file system features') should be deactivated.
As an alternative, SpaceObServer may be interesting for you, as it also supports SharePoint scans. Due to the database used to persist the scan results, the data collecting process, and the reporting/analysis can be split up into two independent steps. Let the scan-service wait, instead of waiting yourself.
Unfortunately there is no short and easy answer to this question because usually one cannot know where a file came from and what it is used for. Generally temporary files and cache files of the internet browsers can nearly always be deleted safely. Besides deleting files, the File Search of the software offers you to move files to a different drive or to a compressed ZIP file (preserving the file system hierarchy) which can then be archived. That way files that are still needed can be easily restored, either manually or by using the restore script that the software is able to generate optionally.
You probably haven't activated the full version yet. Instructions for activation can be found here.
