"Access Denied" errors are most likely related to a configuration issue of the scan permissions. Please note that by default scans are executed in the context of the user account used as login for the SpaceObServer scan service ("SpaceObServer Agent"). Please ensure that this user has read permissions on the share you want to scan. In case the "local system" user is used, you may not have sufficient access permissions to network shares (See: "How can I switch the login..."). If you want to use a different user for scanning you can configure this account in the "Configure Scans" dialog.

SpaceObServer can scan server shares remotely via UNC convention or mapped drives. So, there is no need to install it directly on the file server you want to monitor.
