This happens if SpamAssassin finds rules with a score of zero. Tests with such a score a generally used in third party rule sets.
They check for a specific spam or ham sign but do not actually assign a score to leave it to the SpamAssassin admin if they want to use it or not to optimize their spam detection.
The message can be avoided by assigning a score to the related test or by removing the channel which belongs the particular rule from the sa-update call.
To assign a score, open 'local.cf' in the configuration directory (<%SACONFIGPATH%>) and add the line following line:

  • score YET_ANOTHER_TEST 0.0001

The path to rules and/or config dir is invalid. Make sure you run the executable (spamd.exe, spamassassin.exe, ...) from their main directory instead of specifying an absolute path to run.

Most likely SpamAssassin is not able to find a valid rule set. Please run sa-update.bat to download the latest rules.

In case the required ports are not open, SpamAssassin scans will take much more time - which may cause a timeout.

The integrated SpamAssassin uses DNS (target port 53, TCP and UDP) for blacklist (RBL) requests. You also need to allow requests to target port 2703 (TCP) for Razor2. Otherwise spam scans may last longer than a minute. Alternatively, you may disable Razor2:

  • Create a CF file like "XMySettings.cf" (text files) and put "score RAZOR2_CHECK 0" in it.
  • Put this file in "C:\ProgramData\JAM Software\spamdService\sa-config\"

We do not work with activation codes because you can find them very easily on the internet. Typically software manufacturers protect against this problem using online activation, but this would make customer dependent on the availability of our activation servers and an internet connection.
We are working with separate trial and full versions instead, where the full version is not freely available for download and must be installed over the trial version. After purchasing our software, customers get an account for our customer area where they can download the full version for at least 12 months. Our customers will also receive a personalized license key, with which they can install the full version. Login data and key should be stored in a safe place. Installing the full version over the trial version will preserve your existing data and settings.

Most trial/demo versions of our products support the activation with a valid license key and then unlock all the features of the full version.

Alternatively, you can always install the full version over the existing trial version, your settings from the trial version will be taken over unchanged.

Log in to the Customer Area, using your login name and password. You can then click on the avatar on the top right to log in.

Please follow the link Downloads in the same menu.
There you can download your software immediately after finishing your order and also find the license key.

The integrated SpamAssassin automatically uses RBL 's.You can see this by having a look at the mail header of a spam mail scanned for spam:
* 0.9 RCVD_IN_PBL RBL: Received via a relay in Spamhaus PBL
* -2.0 AWL AWL: From: address is inthe auto white-list

Blacklist/Whitelist

You can add email addresses and domains to your blacklist or whitelist by navigation to Spam | Black-/Whitelist. Add known spam domains to the blacklist or trusted domains to the whitelist for a better spam detection. Because of spoofing, it is not advised to add your own email addresses to the whitelist.

If a spam sender is on the whitelist the spam report will contain the line

"-100 USER_IN_WELCOMELIST"

and the spam score will be around -100. You can find the spam score in the email header under "x-spam-report".

Blacklist for words

You can add rules for emails with specific words by using the conditions "Mail contains text" and/or "Subject contains text". You can choose between different actions for these emails:

In the Incoming (receive) rules you can choose the action "Refuse mail". The email will be refused and the sender will be notified. You can also choose "Do not deliver mail" which will result in the email being discarded.

In the Incoming (accepted) rules you can also choose "Do not deliver mail". Alternatively, you can choose "Add text to the message subject" to mark the email as spam.

You can learn about the differences between Incoming (receive) and (accepted) in our Knowledge Base: JAM Software - FAQs & Knowledge Base (jam-software.com)

User defined Rules

You can also navigate to Spam | Custom Config to create custom SpamAssassin rules instead if you prefer adding to the spam score rather than always marking these emails as spam. Refer to this website to see how to create custom rules: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/SPAMASSASSIN/WritingRules

URIBL

If you receive an unusual amount of spam emails, please check the email header and review the "x-spam-report" entry. If this entry contains

URIBL_BLOCKED ADMINISTRATOR NOTICE: The query to URIBL was blocked.  See https://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/DnsBlocklists#dnsbl-block for more information.

then please follow the directions on this website or in our Knowledge Base: JAM Software - FAQs & Knowledge Base (jam-software.com) This step noticeably improves the spam detection rate.

Change existing SpamAssassin rules

If you want to change the spam score of existing SpamAssassin rules you can follow the directions on this website: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/SPAMASSASSIN/AdjustRuleScore
For this you can also use the Exchange Server Toolbox Custom Config Editor. Adding the changed rule into Custom Config Editor will overwrite the existing rule.
