For fast search results UltraSearch does not use an index but uses the working memory (RAM) to store the file information. UltraSearch uses between 40 and 50 MB of RAM per 100,000 files/folders. In order to keep the amount of RAM required as small as possible, please select only the drives or folders you want to search in the drive list. If you deselect a drive, the file information for this drive will be deleted directly from the working memory.

Yes. The full version of UltraSearch Professional offers the possibility to create your own portable version. To do this, UltraSearch Professional must first be installed on a PC. Then start UltraSearch Professional and select "Options > Create portable installation".

For the freeware UltraSearch Free we offer a separate download of the portable version.

UltraSearch does not support relative paths or URLs in the drive list. Specified paths must be clearly related to a drive, for example 'C:\Users\Default\Downloads' rather than 'Downloads'.

In order to move the UltraSearch settings to a new PC, please navigate to the '%AppData%\JAM Software' directory and copy the subfolder 'UltraSearch' to the corresponding folder on the new PC. If the '%AppData%' folder on the new PC does not contain a subfolder called 'JAM Software', please create it manually.

When searching for file content, UltraSearch analyzes the entire content of each file, so it has to open each file and match its content with the search term. Because file content is not stored in UltraSearch's internal cache, searching may be slower on drives with many or large files, or on network drives. To speed up the file content search, the search should be further restricted using additional search criteria. For example, by restricting it to a specific drive or folder. Restricting to a specific file type or entering parts of the file name is also useful. Additional restrictions through exclusion filter or date and size filters also help to speed up the search.

You probably haven't activated the full version yet. Instructions for activation can be found here.

To activate the full version, you only need to enter your personal license key in the application. To do this, start the application and select “Enter license key” under “Help”. You can find your license key in the license document in the e-mail that you received from us after your purchase, or alternatively in our customer area.

Please note: If your test period has already expired, a dialog will appear automatically when you start the application, in which you can enter your license key.

Most trial/demo versions of our products support the activation with a valid license key and then unlock all the features of the full version.

Alternatively, you can always install the full version over the existing trial version, your settings from the trial version will be taken over unchanged.

The license key that is used during the installation of the program is written on the license document that we supplied as PDF after the purchase. It is also available in our customer area as long as your maintenance (free updates + free support) is valid.
