SmartPOP2Exchange error when logging in to IONOS

Question / Problem

When logging in from IONOS with SmartPOP2Exchange I get the message :

<r< C1 BAD expected 1*ASTRING-CHAR / string instead of "*"
What could be the reason?

Answer / Solution

IONOS can only process e-mail addresses with special characters if they are surrounded by quotation marks.

For example, an e-mail address that is *@domain.com should then be written "*@domain.com".
