What does licensing per user and per instance mean?
Question / Problem
What does licensing per user and per instance mean?
Answer / Solution
With per-user licensing, the license is assigned to a specific person.
That user may install and use the software on up to three of their own computers. Typical examples are TreeSize and UltraSearch.
With per-instance licensing, a specific installation of the software (for example on a server) is licensed.
If multiple users access that installation, the required number of user or client licenses must also be available. A typical example is SpaceObServer Enterprise.
In short:
-
Per user: The license is tied to a person (e.g., TreeSize, UltraSearch).
-
Per instance: The license is tied to an installation (e.g., SpaceObServer Enterprise).
